Hello, wonderful readers of Overcoming Mindset,
You may have noticed my absence since February, and I owe you an explanation. When I started this blog, my goal was to become an influencer, find a niche to start a business, and grow it from scratch into something successful. However, life had other plans, and I want to share my journey with you in detail.
A Period of Depression
Earlier this year, I found myself in a deep funk, spending my days glued to Netflix. I felt unmotivated and lost, unsure of my next steps. Depression can be an incredibly isolating and debilitating experience. It’s important to acknowledge these moments because we all face them, and they are part of the journey. During this period, I struggled to find joy in the things I used to love and felt disconnected from my goals and dreams.
The Turning Point
My breakthrough came in an unexpected way. One day, while mindlessly scrolling through YouTube, I stumbled upon a video that reignited my inspiration and motivation. This video was a game-changer. It was like a spark that lit a fire within me, reminding me of my passions and my potential. Sometimes, all it takes is a small push to get us back on track. This video gave me the motivation I needed to get up, dust myself off, and try again.
From Mom Vlogging to Reselling
Originally, I planned to be a mom vlogger, documenting my daily routines of cleaning and chores. I thought it would be a great way to connect with other moms and share my life. However, I quickly realized that this path wasn’t for me. It felt mind-numbingly boring, and I lacked the passion needed to sustain it. Vlogging required a level of energy and enthusiasm that I just couldn’t muster. I burned out quickly and knew I needed to find something else that truly excited me.
Discovering Reselling
I’ve now found a new passion in reselling clothing, particularly women’s clothing. This venture touches on several of my interests. As a shopaholic, I love hunting for treasures and scoring great deals, which gives me a dopamine rush. My husband has mentioned my shopping habits, and while we live on a tight budget, I found ways to indulge this passion creatively. Reselling allows me to satisfy my shopping cravings while also making money and decluttering my home.
Embracing My Organizational Skills
Despite my ADHD and naturally messy tendencies, I enjoy organizing things. Reselling requires focus and organization, which motivates me to maintain order and avoid losing money or customers. My work area stays organized, even if the rest of the house doesn’t. There’s something incredibly satisfying about finding a place for everything and ensuring that everything is in its place. It’s a challenge, but one that I enjoy tackling.
Overcoming Challenges
Managing time remains a significant challenge. My house often looks chaotic, with clothes and toys everywhere. Balancing work and family time is difficult, especially with ADHD. I’m also exploring the possibility of being autistic, as my children’s counselors have suggested testing based on our family history and my traits. If it turns out I am autistic, it would certainly explain many things about my life. Understanding my own mind better would help me navigate my challenges more effectively.
My Reselling Journey
Since March, I’ve invested about $200, saved up over time, into reselling. I purchased a storage unit, rented a U-Haul, and filled my house with items to sort and sell. This process was incredibly fulfilling—I quintupled my investment in just one day through a yard sale! Sorting through the storage unit was like going on a treasure hunt. Each box held the promise of something valuable and exciting. The yard sale was a huge success, and the experience hooked me instantly.
Joining a Mentorship Group
To accelerate my learning, I joined a mentorship group called Daily Refinement. This group has been invaluable in teaching me the ins and outs of reselling, helping me achieve nearly $2000 in sales so far. The mentorship group provides a supportive community of like-minded individuals who share tips, advice, and encouragement. Having a network of people who understand the challenges and triumphs of reselling has been incredibly motivating and has helped me stay on track.
Looking Forward
I feel optimistic about my future in reselling. I’ve found something I’m passionate about and can see myself growing this business. I even have business cards now and can proudly call myself a boutique owner. Balancing work and family time remains a challenge, but I’m working on it, making sure to unplug and spend quality time with my kids. Whether we’re playing Minecraft together or enjoying a board game, I’m making a conscious effort to be present and engaged.
Stay Tuned
I’ll keep you updated with weekly check-ins and maybe even some videos. I hope you’ll follow my journey and find inspiration to start your own. Remember, with a change of mindset, you can overcome anything. This blog will continue to be a space where I share my experiences, challenges, and successes, and I hope it inspires you to embark on your own journey of growth and self-discovery.
Thank you for your patience and support. Let’s continue this journey together!
Best, Brittney
